THE ART OF TRANSITION CONNECTING CREATIVE MINDS IN DURHAM REGION

Call for Submissions

Local artists are invited to submit a design for a three-dimensional award statue, to be awarded to winners of the upcoming Durham Art of Transition Creative Awards (DATCA).

The DATCA, to be held on Nov. 25, is a community-driven initiative to celebrate and promote the creative economy in Durham Region. Five awards will be presented to citizens of Durham Region who are making a positive impact in the community via arts, culture and creativity. The DATCA is led by a committee of community members and is a spin-off initiative of the Art of Transition symposium held by Durham Tourism in November 2009.

Intended to be an iconic symbol of Durham Region culture, the three-dimensional DATCA statue will be awarded to these five DATCA winners.

The selected artist will be awarded $2,500 for the statue design concept and any pre-fabrication costs (if applicable). This cash prize has been made possible through DATCA community sponsorships.

The proposed design must be able to be reproduced or cast in a limited edition of 41 through foundry or other pre-determined method.

  • The statue mold (if applicable) becomes property of DATCA and will be used for subsequent years of the awards program.
  • Designs must not exceed 14 inches in height
  • An allocation of space at the base of the award must be left to indicate the title and winner of the category, along side the DATCA logo.
  • Copyright will remain with the artist with promotional and publicity rights granted to DACTA.
  • The selected artist will be credited on all publicity and promotional use of the image
