The Art of Transition Culture Fund is one of forty different permanent funds under the umbrella of Durham Community Foundation; however it is the only one focused specifically on supporting arts and culture charities here in Durham. Proceeds from the Let’s Tango VIP reception together with future donations will build a significant endowment fund held by Durham Community Foundation in perpetuity. All donations will be permanently invested with investment earnings used in future to support the development of arts and culture in Durham Region.

i just found a copy of Transitions at Station Gallery when I was there for a Free! seminar on financials for artists. It was generally acknowledged that very few artists make very much money; myself included. After a tough year, despite exhibiting at the outdoor Toronto show, the artist project,queen west art crawl and Adrenalin at the Station Gallery, I don’t see that changing. Since we artists are on the frontline of many of the events that generate cultural buzz, and get people engaged in their community and are so often asked to donate work, time and spirit usually without the expectation of renunmeration. I want to work more in the Durham region, and become self sustaining within my own community…
The net result is, I would love to attend this workshop but can’t afford the $99 fee. A bit of irony n’est-ce pas?

I’d like to thank Viktor and Judith for graciously allowing my two daughters and I to visit and photograph the amazing artwork at their home/gallery. It was a special treat for this 46-yr-old who still remembers the property as a young kid with only a few gargoyles on the fenceposts and building. Viktor had a flaming red beard back then as I recall, heh.

Love the work you’ve done over the decades – it’s absolutely fascinating.

Congratulations, Marissa! Wonderful to see your artwork getting the accolades it deserves. You’re a great source of inspiration in that you are so committed to the pursuit of your painting and creativity. “Lets Jam” has such a vibrant feeling to it. I love the way the composition makes the eye dance around the canvas. Interesting that you found inspiration in music as the theme for this piece. Transitions exist in music just as they do in our day-to-day lives. One slight half-tone change can completely alter the feeling and/or the mood. Similarly, moving things around a space or adding colour can alter the emphasis and transform the way it makes you feel. There are opportunities every day to better ourselves, connect more with our community by making one small shift in thought and/or actions.

Congrats again on this vibrant artwork and it getting front-row centre exposure!

Perhaps I should mention that for several months I have been trying to find out more information online on the Durham Council for the Arts as a way to try and get information on how to get involved locally and to learn about the various events in Durham. My searches did not turn up anything. Does it still exist? If so, how about we create an online web presence for it to make it more visible and accessible to the community? And we could link to the page from here, and vice versa.

I wonder, were there any ideas on job creation for young professionals in Durham in arts and culture? I am a relatively new post-graduate and would love to work and use my skill set in the region (where I am currently living) rather than commute into Toronto but I find limited opportunity.

I would love to see this site where artists could post an add for corporations to view. My daughter sings at charities and corporate events but they are far and few between as we have to seek out events and submit letters. Usually we are too late or the event company has a selected few. Eventhough a person can search the WEB to find an artist, it can be tedious as they still have search and then browse each individual websites to see what the artist has to offer. That is perhaps why planners tend to use their selected few. It would be nice if Durham artsists could apply to a Tourist website whereby Corporations or Ambassadors could view several recommended local artists to book for events.

Using innovation within an organizational environment has been a focus of mine for a few years now. At the Durham Colllege Corporate Training Department we are exploring how to support organizations in the Region to be more innovative and creative. AOT confirmed that we need to create an environment, a “Community”, almost a Place To Be that will foster creativity and collaboration. A place that will inspire and expedite economic growth for our region. It will be this place that attracts industry, which inturn will create job growth and economic prosperity.

I believe that Oshawa is booming, what I have in my mind is a walking path (Underground would be better) trail from the GO to Durham College/UOIT Energy efficient buildings. Social media has already changed how we think and will continue to.

the art of trasition confirmed for me what i have always believed and why i volunteer as volunteers are the backbone of every community.
just to give a bit of infoOshawa has a cancer unit in the hospital also Hearth Place for family friends and patients to talk about what they are going through a healing garden was needed Oshawa Garden Club volunteers and many supporters planted a garden I was able to have donated all the stepping stones by a company volunteersbring communities together
My suggestion would be set-up a Durham Region stategic committee so that action takes place complmenting all communities.
i am District 17 Director of Ontario Horticultural Association of which 12 societies are in Durham Region and we join together through out Durham enhance
our communities and we do an excellant job
We can have a transition for all of Durham Region

Bring office payscales and benefits in line with those of the GTA area. Some employers in Durham need to get into the current century, not yesteryears.
