May 16th, 2012 by Kerri King

Please see message from Oprah Winfrey Network below….

Oprah Winfrey Network (Canada) and Force Four Productions (Cupcake Girls, Urban/Suburban) are searching for an adventurous community to take part in season two of Million Dollar Neighborhood. Could your town be next? Is your family ready to commit to the million-dollar challenge?

100 families from one select community will have 10 weeks to try to increase their collective net worth by $1 million. If chosen, you will be given access to top financial experts and a powerful group of advisers in order to attempt this goal. You’ll have the opportunity to get out of debt, save money and build a stronger community in order to live your best life!

If you want to take part in an exciting new series and participate in an inspiring movement that’s sweeping the nation, please email us and tell us why you think your town is the next Million Dollar Neighborhood. We want to know:

● Why your town should be the next Million Dollar Neighborhood – maybe a major business has shut down in your community or the recession has hit your town particularly hard and you need extra help! ● Why it’s so important for you and your family to receive the help and support of financial experts. ● What makes your community unique in Canada.

To nominate your community or your family, please email stories, pictures and thoughts to: casting@mdntv.ca Want to show the world how special your hometown is? Post about it on Facebook or Tweet about it – #MDNSearch – to spread the word!

On the Labrador

May 7th, 2012 by Jacquie Severs

The Robert McLaughlin Gallery announces the upcoming exhibition and event:

Arnold Zageris: On the Labrador

12 May – 24 June 2012

Artist talk: Thursday 17 May 7pm

This collection of thirty two large format photographic colour prints is selected from a body of work that focuses on arctic and sub-arctic regions of Canada. The images are captured using a traditional large format 4×5 view camera, a photographic technology that is unsurpassed for landscape photography in this digital age. The method allows for fine details and subtle nuances of form and texture to emerge. Though you might think the colours and contrasts have been enhanced, these works have no special filters or treatments.

Zageris states his commitment is “to search and find the quality of light that can inspire the imagination.”

His combination of traditional technique and methodical patience lends him the ability to show us a world we may not see otherwise; an extraordinary view of a geographic region not often travelled. The result is a photograph with a painterly quality, bewitched with startling colours. Such a dramatic beauty emerges that it may make you question the accuracy of the camera in portraying the subject matter. Depicting scenes both serene and rugged, these images are timeless. Beauty is extracted from the harsh landscape of rock and cliff in Labrador, creating images of curiosity.

This exhibition is Zageris’ first in Southern Ontario and is a collaboration with the Art Gallery of Peterborough. Curated by Linda Jansma and Carla Garnet.

The artist will be presenting a talk about his work, adventures and this exhibition of photographs on Thursday 17 May at 7pm. The talk is free to attend and light refreshments will be served.
