THE ART OF TRANSITION CONNECTING CREATIVE MINDS IN DURHAM REGION

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
TRANSITIONS
Volume 5

Welcome to 2011’s first issue of Transitions, Durham Region’s quarterly zine dedicated to celebrating, engaging and empowering the creative community.

There are more and more people discovering Transitions, and the Art of Transition (AOT) movement, every day. We witnessed this first hand with our recent songwriting competition, which garnered a whopping 27 entries! It was inspiring to see the diversity of submissions and how songs were influenced by this great community. Thanks to all those who took the time to write and submit a song.

Getting involved with the AOT movement is a daily motivation to challenge, create, and innovate. As the editor of Transitions, I am empowered by the people I get to meet, who bring life to this community. I encourage you to get involved on www.artoftransition.ca. Connect with us on social networks, and come say hello at the many events held across the region.

Thanks to the Robert McLaughlin Gallery for hosting our Vol. 5 launch party in conjunction with their First Fridays event. First Fridays—a free showcase of art and local music held at the RMG on the first Friday evening of every month—is a great example of the community coming together to celebrate culture. Visit www.rmg.on.ca to find out more about this creative initiative.

As Transitions heads into the new year (and celebrates its first anniversary!), we’d love to hear your feedback on the zine, and, of course, welcome your ideas and submissions. Let’s keep the transition alive—submit your ideas, events, and articles for the next issue of Transitions by Friday, April 15.
