A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
TRANSITIONS
Volume 6
It seems as though Durham Region’s creative talent is in the spotlight lately, on a national and international scale.
Uxbridge entrepreneur Ginny van Vegel, of Elemi Organics, recently handed out her handmade, organic body care products to Hollywood celebrities at the Grammy Awards.
Clarington artist Jane Eccles was a front-page feature in the Toronto Star and garnered media attention across the country from her recent exhibition at Whitby’s Station Gallery.
And lately, when listening to my favourite radio program on the way to work in the morning, I’ve been hearing Durham Region’s finest—musicians such as Forest City Lovers, The Mark Inside, Cuff the Duke, and Diamond Rings—getting regular air time.
This just goes to show that Durham Region really is transitioning into a new, creative economy. It’s an exciting thing to be a part of, and by picking up this ‘zine, you are a part of it, too.
I encourage you to continue to go out of your way to keep “local” in the forefront. Buy local food, visit shops in our beautiful downtowns, enjoy local art and support local musicians—it’s up to you to keep Durham Region’s creative economy thriving.
Thank you to the members of the community who have continued to share their feedback about, and ideas for, Transitions ‘zine. Let’s keep the transition alive—submit your ideas, events and articles for the next issue of Transitions by Friday, July 15.
